How to convert an EPUB to MOBI using Calibre
Wilderness Voice supplies all ebooks in the EPUB format, a format used by the majority of ebook readers. However, Kindle is enormously popular, so we provide the following guide to assist you convert your EPUB ebooks to the MOBI format, a format used by Kindle .
This guide will show you how to convert your EPUB ebook file to the MOBI format using Calibre, a free e-reader and conversion app.
What you will need:
- A computer (Windows or Mac)
- Calibre
- An ebook in EPUB format
About Calibre
Calibre is primarily a versatile ebook reader and ebook library management app for both Windows and Mac. Among the many things it can do is to convert various ebook file types (e.g., PDF, EPUB, MOBI etc.,) to other file types.
Convert your EPUB file to MOBI
Open Calibre
Click on the “Add books”button — this is on the top left corner of the application’s toolbar (see image below).
Choose the file from where you have it saved on your computer.
You will see it appear at the top of your book list in Calibre – see image below.
Click the “Convert books” button in the toolbar at the top of the application window.
This will open another window. You can choose the “Output format” from a drop down menu in the top right corner. To read this on a Kindle, select “MOBI” and then click OK (bottom right of the window), as shown below.
It takes a few moments to convert. At the bottom right-hand corner of Calibre you will notice it says “Jobs”. This will say “1” while it is converting and will return to “0” when the job is finished.
You can check that it has been converted by checking the preview window for this book – it will show that it is now formatted for MOBI and EPUB.
Transfer the MOBI file to Kindle
Plug your Kindle into the computer and wait a few moments for Calibre to recognise that a Device has been connected. Calibre will then show which books are on your Kindle (with a green tick) and which books have yet to be added (see image below).
Select the book that you want to send to your Kindle and click “Send to Device” from the main application window.
You should now be able to access the ebook on your Kindle!
